Peter Causton

Biography

Peter is an experienced independent commercial and civil mediator, and workplace mediator, registered with the Civil Mediation Council. He is an excellent communicator and negotiator and since qualification has mediated over 100 commercial and civil litigation disputes and workplace disputes.

He was a Board Member and Director/Trustee of the Civil Mediation Council Limited for several years, and a Council Member of the Law Society for three years.

Peter is a practising barrister, a former solicitor, an accredited mediator and a CMC Fellow (2026), as well as a member of the Law Society Civil Litigation Section Committee, so he has a wide knowledge of legal processes and litigation costs.

Peter is the founder of ProMediate and of Click2Resolve, which has been certified by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute to provide ADR to consumers in dispute with businesses throughout the UK. He also established a Legal Complaints Service dealing with complaints about lawyers, certified under the ADR Directive.

He is co-author of PI Brief's book on ADR for Personal Injury Lawyers and of Relief from Sanctions, and sits on the editorial board of the Jackson ADR Handbook, the authoritative guide to ADR used in every civil court in England and Wales.

Peter is also a qualified International Online Mediator, having successfully completed specialist International Online Mediator training with ADR Group. This qualification enables him to conduct secure online mediations involving parties located in different jurisdictions and across different time zones.

Personal interests

Outside mediation Peter is a taxi driver for his three children and takes part in half marathons, raising money for charity.
