Workplace Mediation

Conflict between colleagues, teams and managers, resolved early and confidentially — see our dedicated workplace section.

Introduction

Workplace conflict damages productivity, wellbeing and retention long before it reaches a tribunal. A grievance is often the symptom of a working relationship that broke down months earlier.

Formal processes decide whether a policy was breached. They do not usually answer the more important question: how these people are going to work together next week.

What we cover

  • Colleague and team conflict
  • Grievance and disciplinary matters
  • Bullying and harassment complaints
  • Manager and reportee relationships
  • Return to work and senior exits

Why mediation?

Mediation addresses the relationship itself, confidentially and quickly, and gives colleagues a structured chance to say what they have not been able to say through the formal process.

It is markedly cheaper than a grievance investigation followed by an appeal, and far cheaper than a tribunal claim, with none of the public exposure.

How ProMediate can help

We offer single-issue mediation between colleagues, team interventions where a whole department is affected, and executive mediation for conflict at senior leadership level.

Our workplace mediators are CMC registered and work with HR teams, employers and employees across the UK, in person and online, with sessions arranged at short notice.

This area has a dedicated section with more detail on process, formats and fees.

CMC Registered Provider

ProMediate is a Civil Mediation Council Registered Mediation Provider, working to recognised professional and complaints standards.

Nationwide coverage

We arrange mediations throughout England and Wales, at a venue convenient to the parties or at our own arranged rooms.

Online and face to face

Full online mediation on Teams or Zoom, hybrid sessions and traditional in-person days — whichever suits the dispute.

Flexible appointments

Evening, weekend and short-notice appointments are available, and most mediations can be arranged within two to three weeks.

Confidential throughout

The process is private and without prejudice. Nothing said in the mediation can be used later if the matter does not settle.

Commercial and pragmatic

We focus on outcomes that work in practice — payment terms, future arrangements and clean settlements — not on winning arguments.

Frequently asked questions

Is workplace mediation confidential from HR?
What is discussed stays in the room. HR is normally told only whether an agreement was reached and any actions the parties choose to share.
Can it be used during a live grievance?
Yes. Grievances are frequently paused while mediation takes place, and often withdrawn afterwards.
How long does it take?
Most workplace mediations are completed in a single day, with short preparatory conversations beforehand.
